ACHR News – Manufacturers Look at Ways to Improve Indoor Air Quality While Controlling Costs

https://www.achrnews.com/articles/144847-manufacturers-look-at-ways-to-improve-indoor-air-quality-while-controlling-costs

The COVID-19 pandemic has made us all take a closer look at the air quality inside the spaces where we work and play. This brings new challenges for building owners and operators who have traditionally made energy efficiency the priority and focused on protecting equipment versus people. This ACHR News article discusses how IAQ strategies can sometimes directly conflict with the energy efficiency within HVAC system management. We also learn about the pros and cons of ventilation and air filtration, along with why this new focus on indoor air quality won’t be going away anytime soon.

ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers) – ASHRAE Epidemic Task Force Releases Updated Airborne Transmission Guidance

This new statement from the ASHRAE Epidemic Task Force, released in April 2021, supports the position that modifications to HVAC systems are important in reducing airborne exposure to SARS-CoV-2. The press release specifically mentions air filtration and ventilation as important strategies for reducing the spread of COVID-19 during the pandemic. The task force was formed in March 2020 to provide guidance for controlling the airborne transmission of SARS-CoV-2 within HVAC systems. Kaiser Health News – As Schools Spend Millions on Air Purifiers, Experts Warn of Overblown Claims and Harm to Children

https://khn.org/news/article/as-schools-spend-millions-on-air-purifiers-experts-warn-of-overblown-claims-and-harm-to-children/

As students return to the classroom, schools have been under extreme pressure to ensure that the air inside their buildings is clean and virus-free. This article examines some of the dangers that can arise when IAQ solutions aren’t properly vetted out due to a rush for quick, less expensive fixes. These include devices that produce harmful amounts of ozone, use ineffective technology or those that aren’t able to purify spaces adequately. Turns out those tried and true strategies like ventilation, MERV 13 filters, and HEPA filters may be the most effective options after all.

AprilAire e-Series Dehumidifiers

2 minute read

As Healthy Air experts, you know that humidity control is essential for protecting health and homes. Excess moisture can lead to mold, pest infestation, and warping of woodwork/trim. Controlling the relative humidity in a home can also reduce the spread of bacteria and viruses, the symptoms of asthma, and other respiratory conditions   ̶   all while increasing comfort. In addition to added health and comfort, decreasing the moisture level in a home helps the air conditioning to run more efficiently, thus saving homeowners on energy costs.

At AprilAire, delivering Healthy Air is our mission, and humidity control is a fundamental component of healthy air. In our ongoing efforts to produce the best Healthy Air Solutions for contractors, we present our e-series line of dehumidifiers. e-series dehumidifiers feature increased energy efficiency and moisture removal capacity while maintaining our gold-standard ease of installation and a wide variety of install applications.

Models E080, E100, and E130 are all recognized as ENERGY STAR Most Efficient® for 2021 – the first whole-home dehumidifiers to receive this certification – delivering 23% annual energy savings above conventional products. Removing more moisture with less energy means greater performance and healthier air for homeowners.

Models E080, E100, and E100C feature greater moisture removal capacity than their previous iterations (models 1830, 1850, and 1852). Model E080 now removes 80 pints of moisture from the air per day, and Models E100 and E100C now remove 100 pints per day. e-series dehumidifier capacities range from 70 to 130 pints per day, overall, which allows you to select the right size dehumidifier for the job.

As always, AprilAire e-series dehumidifiers are easy to install right out of the box. They include easy-to-access wiring connections and a digital interface that makes set-up quick and painless. Our wide range of models includes options with leveling feet, casters, or hardwired powering options. Duct collars are included for flexibility with different applications. We didn’t make any changes to our current installation methods – so if you are familiar with installing 1800 series models, then installing e-series dehumidifiers will be a breeze!

The AprilAire Ventilating Dehumidifier

2 minute read

Humidity control and proper ventilation are two major components of healthy indoor air. Dehumidifying indoor air helps to prevent mold and mildew growth, pest infestations, and damage to wood floors and furnishings. It also reduces the strain placed on air conditioning systems during hot weather, creating a higher level of comfort that heating and cooling can’t accomplish alone.

Proper ventilation that brings in fresh air can help reduce harmful levels of airborne viruses and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that may be present in homes from paint, cleaning substances, and more. With COVID-19 still present in our lives, proper ventilation is essential for effective virus protection. So, knowing how important both ventilation and dehumidification are for creating healthy indoor air, wouldn’t it be great if there was a product out there that could tackle both?

That’s where the AprilAire E100V+8190FF Ventilating Dehumidifier comes in. This product combines our award-winning energy-efficient dehumidification with fresh air ventilation. It controls humidity that is already inside the home as well as in the fresh air being brought in from outside, making the Ventilating Dehumidifier a valuable tool in creating Healthy Air in homes.

The Ventilating Dehumidifier features a Model E100V Dehumidifier and our patent-pending 8190FF ventilation plenum. The E100V is part of the AprilAire e-series dehumidifier line and is designed for use with the 8190FF. The 8190FF features two dampers   ̶   one for incoming fresh air and one for existing indoor air. When one damper is open the other is closed, which means that the Ventilating Dehumidifier is either bringing in and removing moisture from fresh outdoor air, or it’s controlling humidity solely within the home.

And like many of our other products, the Model E100V+8190FF is easy to install, with simple plug-in installation and only three duct connections.
